An important springboard
Tendra Spit is a long narrow island in the Black Sea near the coast of the Kherson region. If the spit is obtained, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to strike the occupied part of the Kherson region (the length of the island is about 65 km) and the northwestern part of the annexed Crimea.
On the spit there is a lighthouse that was built almost 200 years ago. The island has been under Russian occupation since February 2022.
Official explanations
The command of the special operations forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that some of the special forces of Ukraine were able to complete the “special task”, but on leaving they entered into battle with the enemy of Russia.
“Ensuring the departure of the main forces of the group after completing a special task, the fighters accepted their last battle, remaining in the ranks forever. The heroic and very complex combat work of the MTR units on the ground, at sea and deep behind enemy lines is the daily contribution of MTR soldiers to victory over the enemy,” the statement said.
