The country should consider the possibility of becoming a candidate for membership in the European Union, said the head of the parliament.
Armenia can set a course for joining the European Union and receive candidate status. This is what the speaker of the country’s parliament, Alen Simonyan, said, report Radio Azatutyun.
In response to the journalists’ question whether Armenia is ready to deepen relations with the European Union and whether it can set the goal of becoming a candidate for accession, the politician replied that such a possibility is worth considering.
“We are ready to move and move in the direction that will give us the greatest security. And now the fact that we are a democratic country is an important part of our security,” said Simonyan.
At the same time, he ensured that Armenia’s potential membership in NATO was not discussed.
Let’s recall that Armenia previously suspended its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia can no longer rely on Russia as its main defense and military partner.
