The United States continues to support Ukraine, along with international allies and partners, to ensure it has what it needs for its defense now and in the future.
A full-scale war by Russia against Ukraine poses a threat not only to the security of Europe, but also to countries outside Europe. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced this on Saturday, February 24, in his speech on the second anniversary of the massive invasion of Ukraine, according to the Pentagon’s website.
“The world will be dangerous if Putin and his supporters decide they can wipe democracy off the map and force free people to live in fear,” the Pentagon chief said.
He called on the US Congress to support the bill to provide aid to Kyiv and reported US support for Ukraine. In particular, he indicated that from the beginning of the entire Russian invasion of Ukraine:
-
the countries of the international coalition allocated more than $87 billion in aid
-
The United States has provided more than $44.2 billion to Ukraine through Presidential Powers and the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative
-
together with partners, they trained more than 123 thousand Ukrainians in more than 80 places around the world
-
The United States has trained approximately 19,000 Ukrainian military personnel in combined arms, special combat platforms, and leadership skills
“We support Ukraine’s fight for independence both because it is right and because it is important for America’s continued security,” Lloyd Austin emphasized.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin made a cynical statement that in 2014, the war in Ukraine seems to have been started by the United States, and not by Russia, which annexed Ukrainian Crimea and started a hybrid war in Donbass.
