The British Foreign Secretary recalled Russia’s absurd explanations for the invasion of Ukraine, each contradicting the other.
British Foreign Secretary David Cameron addressed Russian dictator Vladimir Putin with several rhetorical questions that show the absurdity of Russia’s attempts to justify the war against Ukraine. Cameron announced them at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Friday, February 23, Ukrinform reports.
“My question to Putin is simple: why does his government say that this is a war between brothers and what is this twisted form of brotherhood in which so many lives must be lost? How does Russia fulfill its responsibilities as a permanent member of the Republic of Belarus in maintaining international peace and security? And “How many ridiculous explanations do we have for this invasion today? So they (Ukrainians – ed.) are criminals or fellow Russians?”
According to the minister, one moment Ukraine threatens the existence of Russia, and the next Moscow claims that Ukraine does not exist.
“Are you fighting NATO puppets or Nazis?” – he asked, turning to the Russian Federation.
Cameron emphasized that only representatives of Putin’s regime behave like Nazis, “interfering in other countries and hoping that the world will be weak and let him get away with it.”
He noted that Ukraine continues to push Russia back, “liberating half of the occupied lands and expelling the Russian Navy from its base in Sevastopol.”
Taking over a small town does not change the real situation, he added. The Russian armed forces are deprived of modern military equipment and rely on “low-quality shells from Pyongyang.”
“You sent a generation of Russian children to the meat grinder. What are you telling their mothers – why did they die? But you didn’t even bother…” Cameron said.
He stressed that Britain would continue to stand firmly for Ukraine’s independence, and recalled that his country was the first to sign a security agreement with Ukraine.
The UN Security Council met on Friday for an open debate on the anniversary of Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba took part in the meeting.
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that so far there is not a single crime listed in the Rome Charter that Russia would not commit during the war against Ukraine, and called on the UN to use all tools to return Ukrainian children at home.
In the past, the UN released a report on the situation in Ukraine, stating that a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine would have long-term cumulative consequences for many generations.
