Zelensky thanked Congress, the Democratic and Republican parties, the President of the United States and the American people for providing assistance to Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, during a trip to the Lviv region on February 23, met with the leader of the Democratic majority in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, as well as senators Richard Blumenthal, Jack Reed, Michael Bennett and Maggie Hasan. It was reported on the president’s website.
According to the head of state, the senators’ visit to Ukraine is especially important on the eve of the second anniversary of the start of Russia’s large-scale military aggression against Ukraine.
“This is a serious message from the United States, the American people. It shows that you support us. The American people are on the side of truth, and we have common values. Thank you for helping us preserve democracy not only in Ukraine. Fight “Democracy and freedom must be fought all over the world,” the president said.
He thanked Congress, the Democratic and Republican parties, the President of the United States and the American people for providing defense, financial and economic assistance to Ukraine.
Zelensky noted the role of the leadership of the United States in supporting our country from the first days of the large-scale invasion, which was sustained during the two years of the war.
During the meeting, the President informed the senators in detail about the situation on the front line and the priority needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
He called for further increases in military aid to achieve strategic objectives on the front. The President emphasized that the acquisition of additional air defense systems, UAVs of various types, as well as strengthening the long-term capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, remains a priority.
On February 22, Zelensky held a meeting with diplomats, representatives of states and international organizations. Further cooperation and assistance to Ukraine was discussed.
Zelensky was previously reported to have met with Portuguese ministers.
