“The President expressed his admiration for the extraordinary courage of Alexei Navalny and his legacy in the fight against corruption and for a free and democratic Russia where the rule of law applies equally to all,” the statement said.
It was noted that Biden also announced “major new sanctions” against Russia in response to Navalny’s death.
“Today I met Yulia and Dasha Navalny – loved ones of Alexei Navalny – to express my condolences on their difficult loss.
