The press services of the SBU and the Nikolaev regional prosecutor’s office reported this today, February 22.
The enemy’s henchman collected data on:
- warships of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the directions of their movement along sea and river routes. The area of special attention also included locations of military boats in the Nikolaev port;
- coordinates of ground units of Ukrainian defenders, including those involved in combat operations on the left bank of the Kherson region;
- consequences of enemy shelling of the city of Nikolaev
The invaders needed the intelligence information to prepare missile and drone attacks on the front-line part of southern Ukraine, the SBU notes.
As a result of counter-sabotage measures, the Russian informant was exposed at the initial stage of his reconnaissance and subversive activities, which made it possible to secure the locations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units, as well as to document the criminal actions of the defendant and detain him in his own home.
According to the investigation, the enemy henchman turned out to be a 30-year-old resident of Nikolaev, whom the enemy remotely recruited to cooperate earlier this year. The man came to the attention of the occupiers because of his repeated messages in support of the aggressive war against Ukraine.
After practicing enemy tasks, the informant reported in a messenger to a representative of one of the Russian special services. During the searches, the attacker’s mobile phone was seized red-handed.
The informant was informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 114-2 of the Criminal Code (unauthorized dissemination of information about the direction, movement of weapons, movement, movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, committed under martial law). He was taken into custody without the right to bail; the attacker faces up to 12 years in prison.
