The American leader is backing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as the next head of NATO.
US President Joe Biden supports the candidacy of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to become the next NATO Secretary General. Politico wrote this in connection with an anonymous American official.
“Biden’s support is likely to force more allies to support Rutte’s candidacy after months of competition between him and several European leaders for the position,” the journalists said.
Biden had previously said that NATO had yet to reach a consensus on who would take over as secretary general, adding that Britain “has a serious candidate.”
British media reported that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak planned to persuade Biden to support the appointment of British Defense Minister Ben Wallace as the new Secretary General of NATO.
We remind you that Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is the main contender for the post of NATO leader when Jens Stoltenberg steps down next year.
Last May, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said he wanted to be the next Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance.
