Ukrainian human rights activist, public figure, dissident, Hero of Ukraine, deputy of three convocations of the Verkhovna Rada and co-author of the Constitution of Ukraine Stepan Khmara died at the age of 87. This was reported by the widow of the deceased, Roksolana Khmara on his Facebook page.
“I don’t want to believe it. I don’t want to write this. My beloved husband died… We all did everything we could, and more,” she wrote.
Stepan Khmara (1937-2024) – Hero of Ukraine, who served in concentration camps beyond the Urals for more than 7 years, including 306 days in a punishment cell, for the cause of Ukrainian independence.
After the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, Stepan Khmara was elected twice as a people’s representative. He continued to fight for innocent convicted Ukrainians and political prisoners.
Active participant in the 2004 Orange Revolution, supporting Viktor Yushchenko.
