Regardless of their views on the need for elections, more than half of Ukrainians (53%) believe Zelensky should participate in the next elections. In December 2023, the figure was 59%.
From 34% in December 2023 to 43% in February 2024, the share of those who believe that Zelensky should be limited to one current term has increased.
Let us recall that in 2019, Vladimir Zelensky noted that he plans to serve as president for one term. It is not yet possible to hold elections, but when the conditions for holding them arise.
Residents of the West and South are relatively less supportive of Zelensky’s participation in the next elections, while those of the Center and East are relatively more supportive.
KIIS conducted its research during February 5-10, 2024. It was an all-Ukrainian Omnibus public opinion poll, to which was added the question of whether presidential elections should be held, as well as whether Zelensky should run for this post a second time.
Using the method of telephone interviews using a computer, 1 thousand 202 respondents living in all regions of Ukraine (except for the Autonomous Republic of Crimea) were interviewed. The survey was conducted with adult (aged 18 years and older) citizens of Ukraine who, at the time of the survey, were living on the territory of Ukraine (within the limits controlled by the Ukrainian authorities until February 24, 2022). The sample did not include residents of territories that were temporarily not controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, and the survey was not conducted with citizens abroad.
