The American president is ready to meet with the Speaker of the House of Representatives if he “has something to say.”
US President Joe Biden has agreed to meet with House Speaker Mike Johnson to discuss funding for aid to Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters on Monday, February 19.
“Of course, I would be glad to meet with him if he has something to say,” the American leader said.
Biden noted that members of the Republican Party are making a “huge mistake” by opposing aid to Ukraine, which is needed in the war with Russia, and not seeing the threat from the Russian Federation.
“It can’t be but surprising. I’ve never seen anything like it,” said the US President.
Biden hopes the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny will push Republicans to support aid to Ukraine.
We remind you that on February 13, the US Senate supported a package that provides more than $60 billion for Ukraine – mainly for military aid. The Senate’s decision is not enough to appropriate the money – the bill must be passed by the House of Representatives.
Speaker Mike Johnson ended the House work week early and announced a nearly two-week recess without considering the Ukraine aid bill.
