The Israeli War Cabinet determined the final return of the hostages during the Ramadan holiday in March.
Israel is poised to expand its military operation in the southern Gaza Strip and launch a ground offensive in the Egyptian border city of Rafah if the hostages held by Hamas do not return home by Ramadan in March. This is what Israeli military cabinet member Benny Gantz said in a speech to the leaders of American Jews in Jerusalem, reports the Times of Israel.
“The world must know, and the leaders of Hamas must know, if our hostages are not at home before Ramadan, the fighting will continue everywhere, including the Rafah area,” the official stressed.
The Muslim holy month of Ramadan begins this year on March 10.
According to the former IDF chief of staff and defense minister, “Israeli forces will do this in a coordinated manner, facilitating the evacuation of civilians in dialogue with our American and Egyptian partners to minimize civilian casualties .”
“To those who say the cost (of the offensive) is too high, I say clearly: Hamas has a choice – they can surrender, release the hostages, and the people of Gaza can celebrate the holy holiday of Ramadan,” Gantz said. .
As we wrote earlier, Israel stopped the negotiations with the leaders of Hamas, which took place in Cairo, Egypt, through the mediation of Qatar.
Let’s remember that the Israeli military has finished destroying the Hamas “military structure” in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
