This is stated in a message published by Syrsky on his Facebook page on the night of today, February 17.
Based on the operational situation that has developed around Avdeevka, in order to avoid a cordon and preserve the lives and health of military personnel, I decided to withdraw our units from the city and switch to defense on more advantageous lines,” he noted.
Syrsky emphasized that the defenders of Ukraine fulfilled their military duty with dignity, did everything possible to destroy the best Russian military units, and inflicted significant losses on the enemy in manpower and equipment.
We are taking measures to stabilize the situation and maintain our positions. The lives of military personnel are the highest value,” he noted. – We will return Avdeevka anyway.
Also, the commander of the operational-strategic group of troops “Tavriya” Alexander Tarnavsky announced the exit from Avdeevka to pre-prepared positions in his Telegram channel.
In a situation where the enemy is advancing on the corpses of his own soldiers with a ten to one advantage in shells, under constant bombardment, this is the only correct decision, he emphasized. “The encirclement was not allowed, the personnel were withdrawn, our soldiers took up defensive positions at certain lines.
