Prosecutors said the powder letters had nothing to do with the shootings in Brussels in recent days.
Police found envelopes containing a toxic white powder called brucine in several government offices in Brussels. Politico reported this on Friday, February 16, citing the local prosecutor’s office.
It is indicated that they were discovered on Thursday in the Palace of Justice, in the Office of the Belgian Minister of Justice and in the building of state security.
“Police have isolated everything that came into contact with the envelopes. Analysis of the powder showed that it was brucine, a toxic substance that is dangerous only when ingested,” said Yasmina Vanoverschelde, spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office.
He emphasized that contact with the skin of this substance does not pose any risk to the human body, so everyone who has come into contact with brucine has not had any health problems.
Police have denied any link between the envelopes and the shootings that have taken place in Brussels in recent days.
Earlier, white powder was found on the grounds of the White House.
An envelope containing a severed human finger was sent to French President Emmanuel Macron’s official residence in Paris.
