Regarding Avdeevka, the situation there is not the first day. We remember what Russia is doing to our towns and villages. They will not calm down until they completely destroy all life that is there. Our people, our military, heroically defend strategic things, logistical routes that can lead the enemy to advance.
The head of state emphasized that he is constantly in contact with the military leadership and is informed in detail about the current situation in Avdiivka:
I won’t say what new approaches they are using. Their task is to do everything to protect, first of all, our people. And this is the main signal from me. – First of all, we need to make sure that we manage with fewer losses. Our military is the main thing. This is exactly the signal management receives from me. Well, there are already professional people on the battlefield, they know what to do, the president added.
Ukrainian troops are in “hellish” conditions, Russia is throwing all its forces at the city of Avdievka, CNN reports on February 16.
In recognition of the importance of Avdiivka, northwest of Donetsk, Ukraine’s new army commander, Alexander Syrsky, and Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, visited soldiers on the front lines this week.
The operational situation is very complex and tense. We are doing everything possible to prevent the enemy from advancing deep into our territory and holding positions,” said Syrsky.
Despite rumors that Ukraine was considering withdrawing troops from Avdiivka, Syrsky sent reinforcements there. He brought in one of Ukraine’s most battle-hardened units, the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, which earned praise for its daring attacks on Russian troops in the Bakhmut area.
But within a couple of days, against the backdrop of the Russian offensive, even reinforcements described “hellish” conditions.
Our brigade carries out combat missions in conditions that even we could not imagine. The fighting in Avdeevka is several times more hellish than the most furious battles of this phase of the conflict, which took place in Bakhmut,” said Maxim Zhorin, deputy commander of the 3rd separate assault brigade.
As in Bakhmut last year, Russia is throwing its full force at Avdeevka, launching airstrikes and artillery into the city, as well as waves of ground attacks by armored vehicles and soldiers. This turned the city into what Ukrainian soldiers call a meat grinder.
In fact, it is difficult to calculate exactly how many Russians are dying here. Just for one attack on one position yesterday we banned about 80 katsaps! In general, we have already managed to destroy more than 4 thousand Russian military personnel. The scale is fucking lice. I don’t think they have ever had such losses as in the battles for Avdeevka. The Ukrainian forces of the Russian Federation are now “erasing” at least 6 brigades of the Russian army, plus one brigade of the “DPR”, special forces and some of their special forces officers.
And so that you understand the distribution of forces: there are some positions where 6 Ukrainian soldiers are holding the defense, and about 100 Russians are storming, Zhorin wrote in his Telegram.
