Hungary has joined a coalition of 20 NATO member nations to deal with mine clearance in Ukraine. This was announced by the country’s Minister of Defense Christophe Szalay-Bobrownicki on Facebook.
The meeting of the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance was held in Brussels on February 15. During the meeting, an agreement was signed on the creation of the Mine Action Coalition.
“In Ukraine, one of the most important tasks affecting the daily life of the population is mine clearance. The Hungarian Defense Forces will provide their assistance within the framework of the coalition led by Lithuania by carrying out of mine clearance exercises,” said the Hungarian minister. .
Let us remind you that on January 11, the first meeting of coalition partners for demining Ukraine took place in Lithuania. Representatives from 27 countries discussed Ukraine’s mine action needs and the specific contribution of each partner state to the coalition.
Since the start of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, 887,610 people have been injured and 277 killed by mines and other explosives left by the Russians.
