NBC News reports this.
According to Turner, the committee provided information to all members of Congress regarding a serious threat to national security. He did not specify what “threat” he was talking about.
He asked Biden to “declassify all information related to this threat so that Congress, the Administration and our allies can openly discuss the actions needed to respond to this threat.”
An NBC News Democratic source “familiar with the threat” said it was a “serious issue that could lead to destabilization and a threat to national security.” He described it as a “potential external threat” but did not specify where it was coming from.
CNN, citing sources, reports that the threat is related to Russia. The channel’s interlocutors described her as “very sensitive.” One source familiar with the intelligence said that “this is actually a very troubling and destabilizing Russian capability that we have recently become aware of.”
Reuters claims the “threat” is linked to Russia and “space operations.” The interlocutors did not provide any other details.
National Security Advisor to the President of the United States Jake Sullivan declined to say what kind of threat he was talking about. He noted that he personally contacted top lawmakers on the Homeland Security Committees even before Turner warned of a “serious threat.” He said his meetings with congressional leaders receiving intelligence briefings are scheduled for Feb. 15. Sullivan added that he was surprised by Turner’s decision to make a public statement.
Politico journalist Alex Ward, citing three members of the House Intelligence Committee, reported that information about the “threat” is “a serious problem, but not an acute crisis.”
Two ABC News sources familiar with the congressional deliberations said the intelligence is linked to Russia’s intention to place nuclear weapons in space.
We are not talking about dropping it on Earth, but rather about possible use against satellites, the publication writes.
