Farmers will try to increase the area under soybeans, but the lack of high-quality seeds can be a serious obstacle.
By 2024, Ukrainian farmers plan to increase the area under soybeans and sugar beets and reduce corn planting. The Ministry of Agricultural Policy announced this on Tuesday, February 13, citing the results of a survey of agricultural producers.
It indicates that 70% of respondents are interested in more areas for soybeans, which is 21% more than in 2023.
In addition, farmers aim to increase the area under grain crops by 11%, and under spring barley – by 7%. Spring wheat crops will increase by 2%.
In addition, farmers plan to increase the cultivation of spring rapeseed. Some of them are planning to sow rapeseed for the first time. In total, the acreage under this crop will increase by 24%.
Sugar beet growers will slightly expand their area – by 17% in Ukraine as a whole.
At the same time, the area under corn will decrease by 9%. The area under sunflowers can also be reduced.
“However, most farmers have not yet finally decided on the area to sow this crop,” the department said.
We remind you that Ukraine exported 20.239 million tons of grain and legumes in the 2023/2024 marketing year.
