This was reported by the publication “Public” with reference to the commentary of the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate Andrey Yusov.
On January 24, an Il-76 military plane crashed in the Korochansky district of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. The Russian Ministry of Defense then stated that there were allegedly 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war on board who were being taken for exchange.
Back on February 1, Yusov stated that Ukraine had contacted the Russian Federation regarding the return of the bodies of prisoners who, as Kremlin propagandists claimed, allegedly died as a result of the fall of the Il-76, but the aggressor state does not respond to requests.
Then he explained that as part of the exchange, Ukrainians returned home on January 31 and were to be exchanged on January 24 – with the exception of 65 people from the list of allegedly killed in the airstrike, published by Russian propagandists controlled by the Kremlin.
Yusov then noted that in Ukraine the status of these 65 soldiers has not changed – they are considered prisoners of war.
As for the information about the death, yes, Ukraine has addressed and continues to appeal about the transfer of bodies. So far, the Russian side is not agreeing to this,” he emphasized on February 1.
