Local officials said dozens were killed and wounded. There are more than 1.3 million refugees in the city.
The Israeli military launched rocket attacks on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. The Israeli Defense Forces reported this on the evening of Monday, February 12.
It was noted that the IDF conducted a wave of airstrikes against terrorist targets in the Shabur area in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
The military said it had ended the strikes but did not report their results.
At the same time, Reuters, citing local health officials, reported 37 dead and dozens injured as a result of Israeli strikes.
The city of Rafah is located in the south of the Gaza Strip near the Egyptian border. More than 1.3 million Palestinians have taken refuge in the Rafah area after the Israel Defense Forces issued an evacuation warning for northern Gaza and other areas during its ground offensive against Hamas. Unable to leave the small Palestinian territory, many live in makeshift tent cities or overcrowded UN shelters.
It was previously reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the IDF and the defense department to present plans for both the evacuation of Palestinian civilians from the southern Gaza Strip and the disbanding of Hamas battalions in the area of Rafah.
Let’s remember that the day before, US President Joe Biden said that the actions of the IDF in Gaza were excessive.
