American senators fear criticism in Europe. They may hear tough questions about aid to Ukraine at a conference in Munich on February 19-18.

About 30 American senators will fly to Germany.
They will have to comment on the “refusal to Ukraine” in response to tough questions from their European colleagues if the situation does not change by Saturday, The Washington Post suggests.
Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse appeared disappointed this week that he will have to lead a delegation to the Munich Security Conference because Congress has yet to approve additional funds to support Ukraine against Russian aggression, the newspaper reported.
He even expressed the hope that the delegation “will not be bombarded with eggs” in Munich.
The expected Senate vote could take until midweek. Making a decision in favor of Ukraine “will make travel across the Atlantic Ocean much more pleasant” for US senators, writes WP.
On February 9, the US Senate approached consideration of a bill providing for assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan in the amount of $95.34 billion.
Lawmakers expect the next procedural step to come during a rare Sunday session. Even if it passes the Senate on Sunday, the package still faces an uncertain future in the House of Representatives, where Republicans represent the majority.
