Colonel Vadim Sukharevsky (unmanned systems and development of the use of drones, former commander of the 59th Mechanized Infantry Brigade) and Colonel Andrey Lebedenko (innovations, technological component of the army and combat systems) became deputies to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky.
Hero of Ukraine Vadim Sukharevsky is the newly appointed deputy commander-in-chief of Syrsky. He went down in the history of this war as the first officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who in April 2014 gave the order to open fire on Girkin’s militants near Slavyansk.
The 59th brigade, which Sukharevsky led after the start of the full-scale invasion, took part in the defense of Nikolaev, the counter-offensive in the Kherson region, and is now fighting in the Donetsk direction.
The 59th Motorized Rifle Brigade named after Yakov Handzyuk in the spring of 2022, on the outskirts of Nikolaev, stopped the enemy’s advance, went on the attack and drove the enemy back almost 20 kilometers from the city. Subsequently, the summer “epic” began.
Active artillery and positional work was required of us. Destruction of equipment, personnel, exclusion of the enemy’s logistics, cutting off the enemy on the right bank from bridges across the Dnieper River,” Sukharevsky later said.
During offensive operations in August, fighters of the 59th Mechanized Infantry Brigade took over the reserves of two enemy divisions. There have been cases when one tank fought a successful battle with nine hostile T-72s, T-80s and T-90s.
In addition, the following became deputy chiefs of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine:
-
Brigadier General Vladimir Gorbatyuk (operational work, headquarters work, planning, management) – former commander of the 54th Mechanized Infantry Brigade;
-
Brigadier General Alexey Shevchenko – head of the Odessa Military Academy;
-
Brigadier General Mikhail Drapaty (training, high-quality training) – leader of the Kherson group,
