Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace plans to order 10 more launchers and four fire control centers for the NASAMS air defense system.
Norway will supply Ukraine with a new batch of NASAMS air defense systems. The Norwegian government announced this on Friday, February 9.
“The government proposes to the Norwegian Parliament to order ten more launchers and four fire control centers for the NASAMS air defense system from Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace (KDA). This is done in addition to the purchase of equipment that has been transferred that of Ukraine,” the statement said.
The total investment amount will be NOK 3.45 billion – more than $320 million. At the same time, it is not specified exactly how much equipment Ukraine will receive from the new order.
“Norwegian NASAMS system saves Ukrainian lives and prevents the destruction of buildings and infrastructure. Russian missile and drone attacks are large-scale and brutal, so air defense is really very important for Ukraine ,” said Defense Minister Björn Arild Gramm.
At the same time, the minister expressed concern that Norway should acquire air defense systems for its own defense as soon as possible.
We remind you that NASAMS complexes have been in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine for more than a year. When attacked by Russia, these anti-aircraft systems sometimes show 100% effectiveness.
In November 2023, Lithuania transferred the NASAMS launchers and the necessary equipment for them to Ukraine. Norway also contributed significantly to this support package, providing support equipment and fire control centers.
