Kirby noted that Zelensky is the commander-in-chief of his Armed Forces and “he can decide who will be in military leadership.”
This is what civilian control is all about. We know about this. And we will work with someone who will lead the Ukrainian army. We will continue to cooperate with our Ukrainian colleagues,” added Kirby.
Kirby also rejected the assertion that the replacement of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine allegedly indicates the “instability” of the situation in Ukraine. At the same time, he could not confirm that this personnel issue was previously discussed between Kiev and Washington “at a high level.”
Let us remind you that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky today signed decrees dismissing Valery Zaluzhny from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and appointing Alexander Syrsky instead.
