The American leader criticized Israel for its “excessive” response to the October 7 Hamas attack.

US President Joe Biden said he considered Israel’s military action in response to the Hamas attack an “excessive” response. He said this on the evening of Thursday, February 8, answering questions from reporters at the White House, CNN reports.

“I believe Israel’s response to the Gaza Strip has been excessive,” Biden said.

He also expressed optimism that the deal, which now involves the release of hostages with a long cessation of hostilities, could lead to a more lasting change in the war.

Addressing the suffering in Gaza, Biden emphasized that more needs to be done to stop the humanitarian crisis there.

It was previously reported that Great Britain proposed a plan for achieving peace in Gaza, providing for the release of hostages and a long-term ceasefire.
