A document providing temporary protection from deportation from the country must be issued to Ukrainian refugees within one month.
The Tel Aviv District Court ordered the Immigration Authority to grant all Ukrainian refugees in Israel an Aleph-5 visa, which provides temporary protection from deportation. Makor Rishon newspaper reported this on Wednesday, February 7.
The decision was approved by Judge Michal Agamon-Gonen. He noted that the authorities have not determined a policy regarding Ukrainian refugees for almost two years, and therefore the court was forced to intervene.
Agamon-Gonen ordered the Office of Immigrant Affairs to issue such visas to all Ukrainian refugees in Israel within a month and to publish this decision on the official website.
“The Aleph-5 visa grants the status of a temporary resident of the country with the right to work, medical care, education and social security,” the newspaper explained.
It should be noted that since the beginning of the whole invasion of Russia, Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homeland are still in the status of tourists in Israel.
As of August 2023, more than 14 thousand refugees from Ukraine have settled in Israel. According to the Ukrainian embassy, after the attack by Hamas, more than two thousand Ukrainians requested to evacuate the country and the Gaza Strip. 436 Ukrainian citizens left Israel on three evacuation flights.
As reported, Canada expects about 90 thousand Ukrainians to arrive in the country by March 31, 2024, because on this date you can enter Canada with a CUAET visa, which entitles you to special support.
