All 14 present members of the GRP voted for this decision. Thus, the request of the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office to temporarily suspend Knyazev in connection with criminal prosecution was granted. The ex-judge was suspended until April 6. This was discussed in the broadcast of the meeting of the High Council of Justice.
Knyazev himself was not at the meeting due to his health condition. His lawyer stated this.
Let us remind you that on January 31, ex-chairman of the Supreme Court Vsevolod Knyazev was released from custody on bail of 18 million UAH. The initial bail amount was more than UAH 107 million, but it was repeatedly reduced. In particular, on January 30, the amount of the deposit was reduced from UAH 20 million to UAH 18.168 million.
Last May, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau reported the revelation of massive corruption in the Supreme Court. Subsequently, the head of the court, Vsevolod Knyazev, and his accomplice-lawyer were informed of suspicions of receiving a bribe in the amount of $2.7 million.
