Toronto is studying the possibility of transferring CRV7 air-to-ground missiles to Kyiv, which were previously planned to be disposed of. The leader of the opposition Conservative Party of Canada, Pierre Poilievre, demanded that this ammunition be sent to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At a parliamentary meeting on February 2, he said that it was better to give the missiles to Ukraine than to destroy them. CBC reports.
Instead of forcing Canadians to pay millions of dollars to decommission these weapons, they should be given to Ukraine, which can use them to protect sovereignty, the parliamentarian stressed.
The Canadian Department of Defense confirmed that the government is considering such military assistance. However, the military stressed that they first need to know whether the missiles are effective because not all of them are equipped with warheads. You also need to find out whether the Ukrainian Armed Forces need such ammunition.
As you know, the CRV7 is a Canadian-made unguided rocket of 70 mm caliber with a complex tail. It is designed to attack ground targets. In total, more than 83 thousand such missiles are stored in warehouses in Canada.
The Canadian military calls the CRV7 a “Cold War weapon” because the missiles were manufactured in the 1980s and retired in the early 2000s.
Let us recall that US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, during a visit to Kyiv on January 31, said that American GLSDB bombs with a range of 150 km are already on their way to the front. The supply of these weapons occurs within the framework of assistance from the United States of America.
