The attack, which took place late on February 2, was in response to a recent attack on a US base in Jordan. Three servicemen were killed and almost 40 more were wounded. The US Air Forces Central Command reported this on the social network X.
It is noted that more than 85 targets were attacked. Many aircraft were brought in, including bombers flown in from American bases. More than 125 precision-guided munitions were used during the airstrikes.
Specifically, the strikes targeted militia and IRGC command and control operations centers, intelligence centers, missile and drone storage facilities, and logistics and ammunition supply chain facilities that “facilitated attacks on US and coalition forces.”
The military operation was commented on by US President Joe Biden, who said that, on his instructions, the US military carried out strikes on targets in Iraq and Syria that the IRGC and associated militants “use to attack American troops.” At the same time, the American leader noted that the United States does not seek conflict in the Middle East.
Our response began today. This will continue in the times and places that we choose,” the American leader said.
Recall that on January 28, three US Army soldiers and dozens were injured as a result of a drone attack on a small American base in Jordan near the border with Syria. This marked the first time US troops have been killed by fire in the Middle East since the war between Israel and Hamas began in the Gaza Strip.
Subsequently, media reported that the United States had approved plans to target Iran-linked targets in Syria and Iraq.
