Each EU country should think about what it can do to expand support for Ukraine, the Chancellor emphasized.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that European countries are not doing enough to support Ukraine in its war with Russia. He said this on Thursday, February 1, after an extraordinary EU summit, Sky News wrote.
“In many capitals the question is: are you really doing enough? The answer in most cases can only be ‘no’,” said the German chancellor.
Olaf Scholz said that his country, the most supportive of Ukraine in Europe in terms of military aid, cannot provide this aid itself.
However, Scholz said he was pleased with the results of the EU summit in Brussels.
“The fact that the 27 EU member states have paved the way for new billions in aid to Ukraine is good news for the European Union and good news for Ukraine,” he said in Brussels.
Five European leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, appealed to EU member states to step up military support for Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron said Europe should be ready to invest more in helping Ukraine if US support wanes.
