Police said the activists would be charged with damaging cultural heritage and could face fines of up to 60,000 euros.
In Rome, in the central square of Piazza del Popolo, two animal activists doused the famous fountain with red, orange and yellow paint. The Italian agency ANSA reported this today, February 1.
It is reported that in this way animal rights activists participated in a campaign to stop the exploitation of animals in circuses.
A man and a woman unfurled a banner that read, “No more animals in circuses,” and then poured paint over the fountain.
Police said the activists would be charged with damaging cultural heritage and could face fines of up to 60,000 euros.
Let’s remember that last year in Italy a lion escaped from a circus and roamed the city for hours.
