South Korean experts noted that the missile from its northern neighbor was flying at a low altitude.
North Korean authorities say that on January 30 they conducted training to launch the Hwasal-2 strategic cruise missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons. This was reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The Pyongyang official said that the missile launch in the direction of the Yellow Sea “has no negative impact on the security of neighboring countries.” Probably means South Korea.
South Korean experts, analyzing the images presented by the North Korean side, noticed that the Hwasal-2 (from the Korean “arrow”) was flying at a low altitude.
On the dark body of the rocket, white stripes were noticed, reminiscent of the appearance of those on the previously launched Hwasal-1 rocket.
North Korea first test-fired Hwasal-1 and Hwasal-2 cruise missiles in September 2021 and January 2022. Around this time, it launched several more Hwasal-1 and Hwasal-2, believed to have ranges of 1,500 km and 2,000 km respectively.
The cruise missile launch itself does not violate several UN Security Council resolutions that prohibit the use of ballistic missile technology by North Korea. However, this could pose a serious security threat as such missiles could be equipped with nuclear warheads.

Let’s recall that in September 2023, the leaders of the Russian Federation and the DPRK Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un held a meeting at the Vostochny Cosmodrome. A few hours later, the DPRK began a large-scale supply of shells to Russia.
The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, reported that North Korea is the largest supplier of weapons to Russia.
