Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly will visit Moldova and Poland in the coming days, where she will meet with her colleagues and officials to discuss common priorities. The press service of the Canadian Foreign Ministry reported this on Monday, January 29.
It was noted that in Moldova Joly will meet with President Maia Sandu, the head of the Moldovan Parliament Igor Grosu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihail Popsha. The parties plan to discuss Russia’s attempts to undermine democracy by using disinformation as a weapon and how to deal with it.
He will also discuss Canada’s commitment to assist Moldova in the humanitarian situation of Ukrainian refugees. At the same time, officials will consider how the two countries can expand cooperation to ensure peace and security in Moldova, particularly in Transnistria.
During his visit to Warsaw, Joly will discuss plans to continue supporting Ukraine, promoting human rights, preventing threats to regional security from Russia and Belarus, and will also identify additional opportunities for bilateral cooperation and multilateral level.
Joly will also meet with representatives of humanitarian organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Ukrainian House Foundation and Center for Education and Development, which supports Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
It was previously reported that Canada is preparing to sign a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine. Ottawa has already sent a draft document to Kyiv for approval.
