The attackers tried to destroy the weapon with which their subordinates killed 48 protesters and wounded 90 more on Instytutska Street in Kyiv on February 20, 2014. The ex-Berkut officers cut the weapons into pieces and erased the serial numbers. After that, they threw it into the Vita River, and part of it was buried on the shore.
In total, 24 Kalashnikov assault rifles of 7.62 mm caliber, one Dragunov sniper rifle, three Fort-500 shotguns of 12 mm caliber and a Fort-12 shotgun of 9 mm caliber were destroyed.
The DBI recalled that in 2023, in this case, the former deputy head of one of the departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was sentenced to 10 years in absentia.
Let us remind you that on October 18, a Ukrainian court announced the verdicts of five former Berkut members in the case of shooting people on Instytutska Street in February 2014, where 47 people died.
