President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his video message on the results of the 116th day of the war on Sunday night, June 19, said that the most important week since 1991 awaits Ukrainians – the European Council will decide on the candidacy of Ukraine for membership in the European Union.
“Tomorrow will begin a truly historic week. The week when we will hear a response from the European Union about the status of the candidacy for Ukraine. There is already a positive decision of the European Commission, and by the end of the new week there will be a response from the European Council. I think it is obvious to everyone that since 1991 there have been few fatal decisions for Ukraine as we expect today, “said the head of state.
At the same time, he expressed confidence that a positive decision would be made in Brussels.
The president also said that this week one should expect an increase in hostile activity from Russia.
“Specially – indicative. And not only against Ukraine, but also against other European countries. We are preparing. We are ready. We are warning our partners,” he emphasized.
Recall that on June 17, the European Commission recommended that the European Council grant Ukraine the status of a candidate member of the European Union with subsequent implementation of the necessary measures.
