Ukraine will know what happened to the Il-76 and the prisoners of war allegedly on board, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate noted.
The exchange of prisoners of war between Ukraine and Russia will still take place in the near future. This was stated by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, in a telethon on Saturday, January 27.
“The lives of our people – military personnel or civilians – should not be in danger. And in the terrible conditions in which they are kept there. We will do everything possible. I am sure that an exchange will take place in the near future,” he said.
Budanov added that Ukraine would eventually find out what happened to the Il-76 and the prisoners of war it was said to be on board.
We remind you that Ukraine and the Russian Federation have carried out several exchanges of prisoners of war since the beginning of the full-scale aggression. The last exchange took place on January 3. 230 Ukrainian defenders went home.
The exchange of prisoners from the Russian Federation, which was planned for January 24 and did not happen due to the downing of the Russian Il-76, was supposed to be one of the largest in the history of a large-scale war. The Russians said there were alleged Ukrainian prisoners of war on board the plane taken for exchange.
Budanov said that there is now no reliable and comprehensive information about who will actually ride the Il-76.
