Russia’s military industry continues to receive modern mechanical equipment from Taiwan, despite the imposed sanctions. This was stated in a joint investigation by the Taiwanese publication The Reporter and The Insider.
Russia still receives modern metalworking machines from Taiwan, which are used in the military industry.
Despite the fact that the authorities of the island have banned such supplies, the machines reach Russia through third countries. Most parallel imports occur via Turkey or China.
From March to September 2023, Russia imported at least 193 Taiwan-made machining centers worth nearly $29 million.
Parallel imports bring very high profits to both intermediaries and manufacturing companies. For example, a machine worth 60 to 180 thousand dollars from intermediaries in third countries was sold to the Russian manufacturer of cruise missiles and space technology, Kometa Corporation in Moscow for 1 million dollars.
It was previously reported that Russia, despite sanctions imposed by Western countries, imported advanced American and European chips worth more than a billion dollars last year.
