Shevchenko the day after the UAF presidential election gave a comment to the British Sky Sports.
I see no reason to return Russia to football. Nothing changes, people die every day, missiles fly away. I am against Russian athletes returning to sports. In Ukraine, about 350 stadiums were destroyed in the country; a few days ago there was a massive attack on Kyiv. We have problems with young players, because many are forced to leave Ukraine as a result. It is important that they maintain contact with Ukraine,” said Andriy Shevchenko.
He invited Čeferin to visit Ukraine so that the official could see with his own eyes the consequences of the so-called “Russian world” and not even think about Russia’s return to international competitions.
Shevchenko hopes that UEFA does not intend to return Russian clubs and national teams of the aggressor country to big football.
So far, Shevchenko has not officially invited Ceferin.
I want to invite everyone who makes decisions in UEFA to Ukraine – President Čeferin, the executive committee, and other committees. Before making any decisions on Russia’s return to football, let them come and see what Russia is doing,” Shevchenko said in a commentary to Sky Sports.
Let us remind you that on January 25, the legend of Ukrainian football Andrei Shevchenko, following the results of the reporting and election Congress, was elected president of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF).
During the full-scale war, more than 350 sports facilities in Ukraine were damaged by Russian attacks.
The stadium in Chernigov was the most destroyed: after being hit by an air bomb, the city stadium named after Gagarin, where Desna held its home games in the Ukrainian Premier League, was damaged. This week, the Lokomotiv stadium was partially destroyed due to a massive missile attack in Kyiv.
