We are talking about the first interstate lawsuit that Ukraine filed against Russia in 2017 in connection with the aggression in Crimea and Donbass.
The International Court of Justice in The Hague has decided on the date of its decision on Ukraine’s claim against Russia for its violation of conventions prohibiting the financing of terrorism and overcoming all forms of racial discrimination. It was reported by European reality on Thursday, January 25th.
“The UN Court’s decision on this claim – the first interstate claim filed by Ukraine against Russia in 2017 related to the invasion of Crimea and Donbass – will be announced on January 31 at 15:00 local time (16:00 outside of Kiev )”, said the message.
We are talking about the case “Application of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention to Eliminate All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Ukraine v. Russia).”
In it, Ukraine argues that Russia has violated relevant conventions by arming armed groups of its “republic” puppets in the occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and its policies among non-Russian ethnic groups in occupied Crimea.
In April 2017, the UN court issued an interim ruling, obliging Russia not to limit the ability of the Crimean Tatars to maintain their representative institutions, including the Mejlis, and to ensure the availability of education in the Ukrainian language .
And in November 2019, the court rejected all of Russia’s arguments about its jurisdiction and admissibility of the case, which was a complete victory for Ukraine at that stage of consideration.
