LOS ANGELES (AP) – Rapper Nipsy Hasley was deliberately murdered outside her clothing store during an argument over a burglary, prosecutors told jurors Monday at the start of a long -delayed murder trial.
District Attorney General John McKinney said Wednesday in an opening statement that “there is no doubt” that Eric R. Holder knew in advance that he would kill Husley. The prosecutor described the sequence of events, including speaking of an “accident” before Husley was shot three years ago in an area in south Los Angeles where both the men and a rapper grew up there. he helps them revive. Two others were injured in the shooting.
In addition to shooting Husley at least 10 times, Holder punched the rapper in the head before fleeing, McKinney said at a jury meeting in downtown Los Angeles.
“He’s clearly thinking about what he’s going to do first,” McKinney told the jury of Holder’s intentions.
The 32-year-old Holder faces one first-degree murder and two attempted first-degree murder.
McKinney said Holder and Hasley, who grew up in the same area where they were members of the same gang, the Rollin ’60s, met.
In his opening remarks, McKinney presented jury videos and photos of the hunt and its results. The photos show the shooter and the guard, who escaped the scene, wearing a red T-shirt and scarf, carrying a semi-automatic weapon and a revolver. Holder was arrested after two days of hunting, and two months later he was indicted by the grand jury.
McKinney said the shooting caused Husley to feel that Holder was a traitor and needed to be “found out”. Prior to filming, he said the rapper and two of his friends had a “good conversation” with Holder. He said Husley visited the store without any protection.
Attorney Aaron Janssen has a major role in defending Holder, who could face life in prison if convicted. Several witnesses who knew Holder and Hasl told police and a large jury that Holder approached Hasl and shot him to death.
Janssen said the killing of Husley was unintentional and the killing of the other two men was unintentional, making it an exaggeration the first -degree murder and attempted murder. It probably hurts Holder’s mind as well.
On Wednesday, Janssen said Holder was active and had no time to calm down before shooting Husley, saying it was “fried passion.”
Former gang member Herman “Cowboy” Douglas, who worked at Marathon, said Husley didn’t use the real word “spy” when he overheard the conversation. He thought Hasley was trying to give Holder advice when he exchanged “cold”. He said Holder asked Husley if he had listened to his latest music, but he did not feel any anger between the two men.
“He was saying,‘ I heard some documents going around, ’” Douglas said, recalling Hasley’s words to Holder. Douglas was a clerk at a clothing store and, among other things, cleaned the parking lot. He considered himself Husley’s mentor and said he resembled his “little brother”.
Douglas, 49, wearing a black jacket and a T-shirt with a picture of Hasl on both, Hasl said adding, “I didn’t see (the papers). You have to take care of it.”
Another key witness who must testify was a woman McCney said accidentally served as Holder’s escape driver, Brianita Nicholson.
Holder and Nicholson stopped to eat near the marathon. This led to a chance meeting and a brief conversation between Holder and Husl.
McKinney said “Eric Holder got to the point where he wanted to go back to the parking lot and kill Nipsi Hasley.”
McKinney said that after the shooting, Holder told Nicholson: “Be there until he hits you.”
The lawyers spent nearly two weeks selecting the jurors and the trial is expected to continue for another two weeks.
Hussel, who has been dubbed the most popular comedian since the 1970s, was named for his work ethic when he tested the records. He gained loyal followers over the years through mixtapes and underground releases and broke his first major album, which won a Grammy nomination, a few months before he died.
Husle left his longtime partner, actress Lauren London, where he gave birth to a son who is now 5 years old. He also had a daughter who is now 13 years old.
