This decision was made in Washington after preliminary strikes by the American army failed to stop the group’s attacks on ships in the Red Sea. However, some American officials fear that this military operation could involve the United States in an “unpredictable Middle East conflict.” This was reported by the Washington Post, citing anonymous officials.
Sources in the White House said that the Joe Biden administration wants to explode the Houthis’ military capabilities so that they cannot attack ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. And successful strikes against militants could persuade shipping companies to resume sending ships through these waterways.
At the same time, the publication writes that previous American strikes failed to achieve their goals, and the Houthis “promised to take revenge on the United States and Great Britain.”
At the same time, Washington believes that the military operation against the Houthis will not last for years, as it did in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Let us remind you that the Iran-backed Houthis have been attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea since November 2023 in protest against Israel’s war against Hamas. In particular, in January of this year, off the coast of Yemen, they hit the US-owned cargo ship Gibraltar Eagle with a ballistic missile.
