Hackers associated with the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation gained access to the email accounts of corporate executives, employees of the cybersecurity service, the legal department and several other departments. This is stated in the Microsoft blog.
It is noted that the hacker’s attack was carried out in November 2023, and traces of penetration were found on January 12, 2024. Attackers gained access to a very small percentage of corporate email accounts. They stole some emails and documents.
The corporation notes that the hackers were looking for information related to Midnight Blizzard. The cyber attack itself did not occur due to the vulnerability of the corporation’s products or services.
As you know, Microsoft has been repeatedly attacked by Midnight Blizzard. The corporation stated that this group was responsible for more than 22.8 thousand cyber attacks on technology companies.
Let us remind you that the Security Service of Ukraine stated that Russian hackers penetrated the system of the Kyivstar mobile operator in May 2023. Before the large-scale attack that took place on December 12, attackers could steal subscriber data.
Subsequently, Kyivstar denied this and emphasized that “no facts of leakage of personal data of subscribers were revealed during the investigation.”
