The man carrying the Confederate flag during the storm at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021 was found guilty of obstruction.
Kevin Sephrid and his son Hunter traveled to Washington to attend former President Donald Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally and they were the first rebels to enter the Capitol during the attack. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Zifrid was later seen waving the flag when he and Hunter were “part of a large group” of people chasing U.S. Capitol official Eugene Goodman and “facing” other officials. This is stated in a statement by the United States Prosecutor’s Office.
Judge Trevor McFadden also cited evidence that Zifrid used his flag to hunt down Goodman. CBS News reported. Goodman was later honored for his attempt to drive the rebels out of the Senate chamber.
Zifrid and Hunter were convicted of obstruction of crime and four felonies, including misconduct at the Capitol. Ziffrid’s trial is scheduled for Sept. 16.
Hunter, who was acquitted in several cases because of unclear evidence of window damage, will be sentenced Sept. 23. CBS News reported.
