Putin said that Latvia and other Baltic countries are “throwing out ethnic Russians” from their countries and that this situation “directly affects the security of Russia.”
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is creating informational conditions for future escalation against the Baltic countries. This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Military analysts say Putin is doing this as part of a broader attempt to weaken NATO.
On January 16, Putin reportedly said that Latvia and other Baltic countries were “throwing out ethnic Russians” from their countries and that this situation “directly affects Russia’s security.”
The ISW found no indication that a Russian attack against the Baltic states was imminent or likely, but Putin could create the information conditions for future aggressive Russian actions abroad under of the pretense of protecting his “countrymen.”
Let’s remember that in mid-December 2023, Putin threatened Finland. He said that after joining NATO, problems with the Russian Federation may arise in Finland, and announced the creation of the Leningrad Military District.
At the time, ISW noted that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s statements that Russia did not seek to invade NATO territory were very similar to the Kremlin’s narratives prior to the attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022. .
