Speaking in Iowa, Trump said he was able to reach an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin because, according to him, they have a good relationship.
Putin and I get along great. We get along very well. This is good, not bad. If fake news became real and honest news, 90% of our problems in this country would be solved… The situation with Ukraine is so terrible… And we’re going to solve it, we’re going to solve it very quickly,” Trump said.
He expressed confidence that he would be able to attract the presidents of Ukraine and Russia to the dialogue:
I know President Putin very well, I know Zelensky very well, I can involve him, we will solve this very quickly. This (war) should never have happened.
Donald Trump won the caucuses (party meeting) in Iowa. This gives him a strong start in the fight for the Republican presidential nomination, writes the Associated Press.
The ex-president scored 51%. Following closely behind is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (21%) and former US Representative to the UN Nikki Gailey (19%) in third place. The next primary will be in New Hampshire.
Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy took fourth place. He announced his retirement from the race and said he would support Trump.
Previously, Ramaswami said that if he wins the elections, he will accept Russian control over the occupied territories and block Ukraine’s entry into NATO – in exchange for Russia’s withdrawal from the military alliance with China. He promised to lift sanctions and “return the Russian Federation to the world market.”
