The increase in the number of casualties was mainly due to the massive Russian rocket attacks on December 29 and 30.
At least 592 civilians were killed or injured by Russian attacks in December 2023. This is an increase of 26.5% compared to the previous month. This is stated in the report of the UN Monitoring Mission.
“The number of reports of civilian casualties, some of which are still awaiting verification, suggests that the increase is even higher. The increase in civilian casualties in December is contrary to the trend of decrease in civilian casualties by 2023,” – said the message.
The monitoring mission indicates that the increase is mainly due to the massive Russian rocket attacks on December 29 and 30.
Rocket attacks caused 34% of civilian casualties in December, up from 16% in November.
We remind you that, according to UN information, more than 10.2 thousand civilians have died in Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
It was previously reported that 14.6 million Ukrainians are in need of humanitarian aid.
