The visit of the American delegation of congressmen may take place in May of this year, announced a representative of the House of Representatives.
The United States is planning a congressional delegation visit to Taiwan following the inauguration of President-elect William Lai. This is what the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, said.
“We congratulate William Lai on his election as the next president of Taiwan and are pleased to see democracy flourish among the Taiwanese people. The United States is committed to working with President-elect Lai and building on the strong partnership we have with President Tsai,” he said.
The spokesperson added that the visit of the American delegation may take place in May this year.
“To emphasize Congress’ continued commitment to security and democracy, I will ask the heads of the relevant House committees to lead a delegation to Taipei after Lai’s inauguration in May,” he said.
Johnson expressed hope that the United States and Taiwan will work together to continue to advance the principles of freedom, opportunity and security for all freedom-loving countries and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
Let’s remember that the presidential election in Taiwan was won by a candidate unacceptable to China – the current Vice President Lai Ching-to.
