The G7 countries have decided that Russia must pay for the destruction caused by its war against Ukraine.
The US authorities and the G7 countries support the bill on the confiscation of Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. Penny Pritzker, the US special representative for the economic recovery of Ukraine, told reporters about this on Friday, January 12, Radio Liberty reports.
“There is progress on this issue,” Pritzker said.
He noted that the G7 countries decided that Russia should pay for the destruction caused by the war against Ukraine. Therefore, Pritzker emphasized, “G7 members said they would leave Russian assets frozen.”
At the same time, the G7 countries have not yet made a decision on how exactly these assets will be used, but “have ordered the relevant ministries to find all possible ways to get compensation.”
Pritzker also recalled that the United States has a bill “On restoring economic prosperity and opportunity for Ukrainians,” which was supported by the Biden administration.
Earlier, the media reported that the United States had begun urgent negotiations on Russian assets. In particular, the Joe Biden administration is pressing Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan to prepare a strategy for using frozen money on the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
