For his performance in the free program at Euro 2024, which takes place in Lithuania, Shmuratko received 140.70 points. This was the third result out of 12 participants who had already shown their free program.
The Ukrainian figure skater was the first to perform in the free program. And he went out onto the ice wearing a shirt with a red stain.
Commenting on the content of the free program for “Public Sports”, Shmuratko explained: he laid in it the meaning of the state of being between life and death. And going out on the ice in a shirt with a red stain on it is the death of people from missiles.
What content did you put in? Astral between life and death. No more, no less. Incomparably more can be conveyed than in words. Blood element? Because that’s how it is, literally. People die from rockets like this, bleeding,” said the Ukrainian figure skater.
Shmuratko also explained the change in the free program by the desire to reach a broad level of perception.
First of all, it was an inner feeling to reach a global, wide audience. I am very impressed by Vasily Zinkevich’s violin, I will show it to you. Mikhail Leiba and I decided to do something more accessible to a wider audience. [У довільній програмі] were [композиції] Ludovico Einaudi and Olafur Arnolds.
Shmuratko is a 22-year-old Ukrainian figure skater representing Kyiv and specializing in singles skating. He is a participant and finalist of the 2022 Olympic Games (24th place), a participant in the World Championships (best result – 21st place in 2021).
