The ship was likely wrongly targeted based on outdated public information linking it to the UK.
The Houthis, who recovered from last night’s attacks, on Friday, January 12, again launched a missile attack on a tanker off the coast of Yemen. However, due to an error, a missile was launched towards a tanker carrying Russian oil. Reuters reported this, citing the British maritime security company Ambrey.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Organization (UKMTO) said it had received reports of a missile launch 90 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni port city of Aden.
“The captain reported the missile landing in the water at a distance of 400-500 meters, followed by three small vessels,” the UKMTO advisory notes. No casualties or injuries were reported.
This is the second tanker mistakenly targeted by the Houthis while carrying Russian oil.
“A Panama-flagged tanker sighted three boats while passing east in the International Recommended Transit Corridor,” Ambrey said in the report. They added that the ship reported that a missile had hit the water.
Ambrey believes the ship was wrongly targeted based on outdated public information linking it to the UK.
We remind you that on the night of January 12, the United States and Britain launched strikes against the Houthis because of their attack on ships in the Red Sea. Russia immediately responded by requesting an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
